MA Fine Art Interim Show
WHERE WE’RE CALLING FROM
Participating in a large group show with 90 fine art majors was an intense and transformative experience. This event, the biggest school course ever held before the summer show, was a significant milestone for our department. From the initial installation to the final withdrawal, we encountered numerous variables and challenging obstacles. The sheer scale of the exhibition demanded meticulous planning and coordination, testing our ability to work collaboratively under pressure.
Despite the logistical complexities, the mantra that "the show must go on" drove us forward. I faced considerable stress, but the determination to see the project through kept I motivated. Midway through the exhibition, however, I fell ill, experiencing severe body aches and high fevers. As it turned out, I wasn't alone; many others had also contracted the flu, adding another layer of difficulty to an already demanding project. This illness made the physical and mental challenges even more daunting, but it also underscored the resilience required in the world of fine art exhibitions.
Despite my health issues, I managed to complete all the schedules and tasks assigned to me. This experience reinforced the importance of commitment and responsibility in such large-scale projects. Looking back, the most crucial aspects of this journey were installing and withdrawing my work, interacting with the people involved, maintaining a sense of responsibility, and keeping our collective promises. These elements are fundamental to the success of any group show, especially one involving so many participants.
The exhibition was not only about showcasing our art but also about learning to navigate the complexities of working with a large group of peers. Timing and scheduling were critical, as any delays or miscommunications could have jeopardized the entire show. Through this project, I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of coordination and teamwork. The experience also highlighted the significance of health and well-being. Balancing the demands of the exhibition with self-care is crucial, and this is a lesson I will carry forward in my future endeavors.
