Mediating the image workshop:
transformations through process and material
The intensive three-day image transfer workshop pushed the boundaries of visual experimentation through diverse printmaking techniques and a time constraint that added pressure, fostering a dynamic and creative environment. The creative process in a workshop setting sparked a sense of joy and accomplishment as different techniques and materials were explored, such as mono-printing Relief printing, Collage.., and Image transfer processes, led to a fundamental inquiry about the essence of edited images in landscapes it was a workshop that led to the study and discovery of motifs in my visual language. The main images in my work are reproduced in the form of print silkscreens or motifs derived from mono-printing techniques.
“ how do we encounter the image - the inter-relationship between image/object/surface - how do we 'read' the image about its surface/form/space? ”
From the tutor's handout (Hadley, 2023) Anastasia Samoylova said about her work, sculpting and printing such images into abstract forms, in a sense, monumentalizes them. As they are given materiality, I photograph them in the environments that were created specifically for them, taking into consideration their form and content, in order to record their presence in the real world (of my studio).
It was during these moments of exploration that I found myself questioning the essence of edited images in landscapes—a fundamental inquiry driving my ongoing research. What is about monumentalizing landscape, as materiality what I consider of my work?
When the workshop progressed, the pressure became an opportunity to find new narratives and perspectives. The joy that came from overcoming these challenges was an added layer of accomplishment. In addition to preparing for upcoming exhibitions, this immersive experience prompted deeper self-inquiry, reinforcing the relevance of fundamental questions relating to edited landscapes and perceptions of images. Through the three-day workshop, I investigated creativity, pushed limits, and provoked thoughtful reflection throughout the three days of the workshop to produce visual expression.
